Our next meetings are:- 

 

October 4th

 

Essex Poetry Festival . 2 well- known and published Poets, Kate Evans-Bush and J.S.Watts, will come and talk about their poetry to our Group.

November 1st The day after Hallowe'en. Members are invited to bring their own or favourite poems concerning ghosts or the supernatural. The evening will be introduced by historian, archaeologist and popular author of 'Essex Ghost Stories' Robert Hallmann, who will commence by reading a few of his own ghostly poems.

December 6th A talk on Christmas poems and those relating to winter will be given in the first half of the evening by member John Debenham. This will be followed by a read-a- round of members own or favourite seasonal poems.

  2018

January 3rd

A read around of poems members intend to submit for possible publication in our Annual Anthology, 2018.

February 7th Prolific author, publisher, poet, and member of our Southend Poetry Group, Mervyn Linford, will give a talk entitled. ' A Question of Influence - Form or Freedom - Andrew Young and the Poetry of Nature.'
March 7th Our chair, Dorothy Turner, will give a talk called ' The Poetry of Douglas Dunn'.
April 4th

Our Annual Workshop. Come and try your hand at writing poetry 'on the spot' for the first half of the evening. You will have an opportunity to read your poem to the Group, if you so wish , after the workshop session.

May 2nd Hélène Robinson will give her annual talk about a poet of her own choice.
June 4th Annual General Meeting of the Southend Poetry Group. Time to elect/re-elect your Committee Members, present your ideas for improvement, suggest talks for the future etc. This will be followed in the second half of the evening by a read around of your own or favourite poems.
